Face Lifts

Face lifts and other facial rejuvenation surgeries — along with non-surgical solutions – can significantly reduce the visible signs of ageing

Facelift surgery best melbourne

Ageing is most commonly seen around the jowls, lips, cheeks, eyelids and brows. Sagging jowls, reduced skin collagen and overall facial ageing may leave you looking older than you actually are or older than you feel inside.   But you don’t have to tolerate the effects of ageing because Facial Surgery can help.

Are you a candidate for a Facelift procedure?

Have you noticed that:

  • You have a tired look…even when you’re rested?
  • Jowls that are plump or sag, making you LOOK heavy or aged?
  • Sagging, wrinkled lower-face skin which has a crepey appearance?
  • An indistinguishable neckline?
  • A lax jawline – once crisp, your jawline now fades into your neck area almost indistinguishably?
  • Do you miss having a more defined jawline and clearly visible chin?

face-lift

Does this lead you to:

  • Avoid mirrors or cameras?
  • Tilt your head to a ‘more flattering’ angle?
  • Prefer dim lighting?
  • Feel you look heavier or more aged because of sagging jowl skin?
  • Miss having a distinctive jawline?
  • Wish you only had one visible chin?
  • Want to cover up your sagging jowls with scarves?
  • Regularly hold up your lower-facial skin to assess what you’d look like with firmer facial skin?

If you have a lax jawline that was once well-defined, your jawline may now seem indistinguishable. Perhaps your neck and chin seem to blend together.

Our leading Plastic Surgeons for Facial Rejuvenation Surgery can help you:

  • Regain a more youthful-looking face
  • Restore definition to your jawline
  • Tighten up facial skin to help reduce wrinkles and lines
  • Remove excess, sagging skin along the jaw and jowls
  • Reduce lower-face heaviness

Facial and Rejuvenation surgery is a journey.

What sets us apart from other Surgeons is not only our decades of success in providing patients with best-care practices, natural looking facial outcomes and long-lasting results. It is also that we believe surgery is a collaboration, and that the best outcomes from Plastic Surgery comes from the right patient, having the right procedure, at the right time, in the right facility, and with the right Surgeon.

Surgery and healing is a process and your Surgeon and Support Team will be there to help you during what can be a stressful time

We understand that a Surgery starts with consideration. The actual process begins with a consultation, then moves forward in time with the pre-planning, information gathering period, consent paperwork and scheduling – and pre-surgical mark-ups through to your actual procedure and initial recovery period.

But to us, the connection doesn’t end with your follow-up visits. We think it’s helpful to be available to our patients for the duration of a lifetime.

We have many clients that return to us for later procedures and refer their family, colleagues and their friends to one of our elite team of Seven Plastic Surgeons (Melbourne) and Three Plastic Surgeons (Sydney). We e are pleased to have such an experienced team to help treat patients who have all types of complex surgical requirements, whether it’s their first operation, or a revision from an overseas surgery centre or less experienced surgeon — to a remedy for a complication or a correction for an out-of-proportion feature.

Your Journey – The basics of a Face Lift procedure

It begins with your initial consultation to discuss the best options for your appearance goals, and continues through to your surgery day and your follow up consults, including any post-op healing facilitation such as Fraxel laser treatments to reduce your scarring.

It’s important for your Surgeon to assess your facial features, your appearance change goals (often rejuvenation but sometimes just facial balancing or jawline area refinement), and the condition of your skin and overall health. Your Surgeon will also take into consideration whether or not you’ve had prior facial surgeries or injuries and scar tissue, which will be taken into careful consideration for your procedure and pre-surgery planning.

We don’t cut corners. We’re not a discount, cheap ‘back room’ surgery facility

Surgery is serious. Some surgeries are considered ‘less major’ than other surgeries, in terms of theatre and aneasthetic time and the recovery periods. Yet ALL surgery has risks. Surgery should never be taken lightly. For major surgeries such as facelift or necklift procedures, our Surgeons operate in a fully accredited Australian hospital using highly experienced Anaesthetists.

Choosing Our Team of leading Plastic Surgeons for facial surgeries means you will get care excellence and honest, practical advice about which specific procedure (or procedures) will help YOU to look your best.  And we’ll ascertain that you get a pleasing, natural looking result that is aligned with your other features and complements your entire face.

Our priority is to provide excellent patient care and precision surgery procedures, with an aim on minimal scarring, hospital based procedures, and DRAIN-FREE methods. In a collaborative and comfortable setting, you and your Surgeon can develop a rejuvenation plan to best meet your skin and facial revitalisation (anti-ageing) needs.

Face Lift Procedures: Types & Categories

There are a number of different types of Facelift surgery procedures.
Broadly, most facelifts fall into two categories, although there are variations.

Full Facelift Procedure

A Traditional “Full” facelift involves carefully lifting and stitching into place a complex series of muscles, ligaments and other structures in the face.
Once the “lift” is complete, excess skin is trimmed (usually behind the ears and at the hairline).
A full facelift is probably the most effective way to reduce perceived ageing of the face.
  • However patients need to understand the implications of this procedure
  • A full facelift is a very long procedure, often taking many hours
During the procedure, your Surgeon will systematically move and stitch into place many anatomical structures that support the  face.
Healing time can be extended, so if you are interested in this procedure, you need to understand that at least a few weeks of very “post surgery” appearance can be expected.
In return you will receive a radically younger, more toned facial appearance.

Minimally Invasive Facelift Procedure

Another type of facelift is the minimal invasive Facelift – it works a little differently.

During a minimal access lift the primary effect is achieved by “pulling” a series of tough ligament structures up from just behind the ear.

The lift is supported by a “thread” that is put into place through a series of small incisions behind the ear.

A Minimal access lift cannot achieve the systematic lifting of all major structures in the face like a conventional facelift, but in return, it is a less invasive procedure.
  • Minimal access lifts are often conducted in combination with brow lifts, injectable fillers and eyelid surgery
  • Generally healing time is much shorter than a full Facelift

Scarring and Post-Surgery Fraxel Treatment

There  is usually some scarring even from a highly successful facelift but the location of the scarring is such that is rarely noticeable, even without make up.
Depending on the type of face lift performed it may be possible to make incisions so fine that hairline scars actually continue to have hair growing out through the scar. When this occurs the scar is very effectively concealed.
If the neck requires tightening a small incision is made just behind the chin. The loose ligaments, muscle and fascia are all tightened and restored. In some cases further sculpting of the neck fat may be performed.

  • Ask one of our Patient Care Coordinators for details – just send an enquiry form today to get started

Why we believe in-Hospital Surgery Procedures are Best for Facelifts, Rather than Day-Surgery or unregulated ‘back room’ theatres

A Hospital theatre operation means you’ll have top quality medical and anaesthetic care, as hospitals are regularly monitored for patient saftey.

It can also help with your after-surgery care, post-op elevation position and with pain management, and is often better than if you were discharged just after your facelift.

Hospital-based surgeries often als makes it a bit easier for you to manage pain or receive help in the days immediately after your Facial Surgery.

  • Discuss your options and healing recovery questions with your Specialist Plastic Surgeon or ask a Patient Care Coordinator for more information.

A full Facelift may be performed as a day procedure, but for most patients an overnight stay in hospital is preferred.
Staying in hospital overnight means that you will have all the support you need during the important immediate post surgical period.
A minimally invasive  lift can often be done as a day procedure or with an overnight stay at a private hospital. Everyone is different, and the need for an overnight stay will depend on the exact combination of procedures you are having, your general health and the level of support you have at home.

After Your Face Lift Surgery

You will find some dressings on your  face  after surgery. The dressings are usually removed a day or so after surgery, and you can shower and shampoo your hair once they are off.
Patients are advised to sleep with their head and shoulders elevated for the first week after surgery.
Patients usually experience some swelling and bruising after a facelift. After two or three weeks the majority of swelling will have disappeared. After a MACS lift you will be superficially healed after about 2-3 weeks*. A few weeks later swelling will have settled and you will be most of the way to your final appearance.
Full recovery from the surgery takes three to four weeks*, and we strongly recommend a gentle return to full activity.

After a facelift you will be aware of a significant change in your appearance, however your friends and associates may not be quite so perceptive.

A full facelift will also take about 2-3 weeks* to superficially heal, but it may take an extra 3  – 4 weeks* for swelling and bruising to subside. It may take up to a year for all swelling to fade and for your new appearance to settle.

It is very common for people to receive comments such as “you look fresh!” and “you look different somehow!” after receiving a successful Facelift.

  • Rhinoplasty  (Nose Reshaping)
  • Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Reduction)
  • Necklift
  • Facial feminisation
