Are your eyelids starting to droop?
Men often show early signs of ageing around the eyes. The phrase “the eyes are the window to the soul” may well be a true, but I would also add the statement that “the eyelids are the window through which you see the soul.”
And the reality is that, for most men, ageing, sun damage, genetics, stress and environmental factors can all deteriorate the youthful vitality appearance of your eyes.
Loose hanging droopy skin, lateral brows that hang over the upper eyelids, and bulging fat pads below the eyelids with accentuated tear troughs put forth the image of fatigue and a loss of vitality.
This often results in partners, friends and colleagues saying that you ‘look tired’ or repeatedly asking if you are getting enough sleep.
Fortunately, plastic surgery to restore the upper eyelids to a crisp appearance with correction of any eyelid droop can be a game changer.
If your problem is more related to under eye puffiness or fatty-looking ‘bags’ under your eyes, then a lower blepharoplasty surgery can help restore a more youthful or bright-eyed appearance (saggy or baggy lids prevent light from reflecting in your eyes in photos).
You might be an ideal candidate for eyelid surgery
The lower lids can be rejuvenated by removing excess fat and precisely repositioning this tissue over the cheek to eliminate the tear trough. Combined with skin and muscle tightening, this procedure provides a fresher and more vibrant appearance. This can be important not only in social situations, but also in how a person is viewed in the workplace or on a digital profile (professional, social or personal).
You might be an ideal candidate for eyelid surgery
Male Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is a surgical procedure to improve the appearance of the eyelids. Surgery can be performed on either the upper and lower eyelids, or both (known as “double eyelid surgery” or a combined upper and lower eyelid lift procedure.
Whether you want to improve your appearance or are experiencing functional problems with your eyelids, eyelid surgery can help rejuvenate the area surrounding your eyes and leave you looking more refreshed.
Specifically, eyelid surgery can treat:
- Loose or sagging skin that creates folds or disturbs the natural contour of the upper eyelid, sometimes impairing vision
- Excess fatty deposits that appear as puffiness in the eyelids
- Bags under the eyes
- Drooping lower eyelids that reveal white below the iris
- Excess skin and fine wrinkles of the lower eyelid

Upper Eyelid Surgery for Men (Upper Eyelid Lift)
Upper Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that can helps reverse the appearance of ageing by removing excess skin from your upper eye lid. Excess skin can create impression of ageing in a subtle way that is often difficult to isolate. Additionally, excess or poorly positioned skin and fat in your upper lid and surrounding periorbital areas can combine to give the impression of sagging, inelastic ageing skin.
Old looking eyes generally contribute to an older looking face, and saggy, baggy eyelids are a common complaint we hear from our male patients seeking the best eyelid lift and skin rejuvenation procedures from our specialist plastic surgeons in Melbourne.
Fortunately, an Upper Blepharoplasty surgery can correct “droopy” eyelids and reduce the perceived age of a man’s face.
Excess skin or saggy upper eyelids can also lead to a restriction of vision by physically blocking the eye. This scenario is called ptosis, and an upper eyelid lift can resolve this issue.
Sometimes patients also have excess adipose (fatty) tissue in the upper eye lid which can cause the eye to appear “puffy” or “heavy” looking. Blepharoplasty can correct this condition by removing or reshaping a tiny area of fat inside and around the eyelid, leaving a more pleasing, more youthful appearance.
Some patients from Asian backgrounds may find that modifying the “eye fold” area enhances their appearance. This form of blepharoplasty requires special care and extensive experience to provide the aesthetic outcome Asian heritage patients desire.
Lower Blepharoplasty for baggy eyes (Men’s Eyelid Surgery)
Lower Blepharoplasty removes excess skin and fat from the lower lid and periorbital area under the eye.
As well as reducing perceived age, this eye surgery can correct drooping that exposes the area of the eye (white) below the iris, and most importantly for many patients, help remedy the dark “bags” under the eye.
Double Eyelid Surgery (Double Blepharoplasty)
Upper and lower eyelid surgery, separately or combined (‘double bleph’), can help to reduce the perception of ageing in appropriate candidates by restoring a toned, healthy looking skin area above and below the eye area.
